In September of 2006, a helicopter flying from Taplejung to Kathmandu was crashed in Ghunsa of Taplejung district. The helicopter was carrying 24 renowned national and international conservationists including the then minister for forestry Mr. Gopal Rai, Geographer Dr. Harka Gurung, Secretary of Nepal Government, Mr. Damodar Prasad Parajuli, Mr. Sarad Kumar Rai, the then Department chief of National Park and zoo department, deputy ambassador of embassy Finland, and the country and regional directors of many NGOs like WWF, USAID, World Wildlife Conservation Fund etc. The helicopter crash created a incomparable loss to the natural conservation sector of Nepal as well as the globe.

In this context, Conservationist Memorial Statue Park park is being made by Water Resource And Environment Conservation Trust Nepal in memory of 24 demised honorable people. Water Resource And Environment Conservation Trust Nepal has been working on this park since 2006 AD (2063 BS) after helicopter crash in Ghunsa in 2006 AD. Water Resource and Environment Conservation Trust has made a park at Ramkot, Kathmandu in the memory of 24 remarkable peoples who lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Ghunsa on September 23, 2006. The park is also under the grand project "Park Abhiyanta In Nepal". Water Resource and Environment Conservation Trust Nepal focused on making statues of the dead in the park in their memories. The park is located at Kwake Chaur in Ramkot VDC of Kathmandu in the area of 15 Ropanis i:e 7631 sq.meter. The site is about 9 kilometers west from nearby Ring Road, Sita Paila Chowk. This project has got attention from various National and International bodies and has been featured in many high-authority newspapers too.
